 About Jim

Jim is an illustrator for film and television, specialising in storyboards, key frames, concept visuals and animatics. With over

25 years experience in the film industry and more than 35 films to his name, he is one of the most sought after storyboard artists in the UK today.

Jim has drawn panels for many international award winning productions and is comfortable working alongside Directors, Designers, VFX Companies and Supervisors, Stunt Co-ordinators and 2nd Unit Directors. He is able to breakdown and visualise complicated sequences, develop and realise story and plot points and find creative solutions to technical and logistical problems.

The role of the storyboard artist is to take a scene or sequence and generate a visual version of the action, based on a brief from the Director and input from various department heads. When the sequence is drawn and approved it can be distributed to the different departments as a document for discussion.

Changes can then be made based on ideas and/or limitations that arise out of the planning process, resulting in a final draft which should, in theory, resemble the sequence as it appears in the cut film.

" It's the start of a journey and each one is different from the last."

When everything else is put to one side, I get paid for doing something that I love and enjoy. I get enormous pleasure from my job; from thinking about it, planning it and executing it. I derive huge satisfaction from being able to contribute, by helping to solve problems and being part of the creative process.
